Upcoming Deadline Granted by the Regulatory Board of Medical Cannabis

September 11, 2018

The budding medical cannabis industry in Puerto Rico has shown significant growth in the last few years. The Regulatory Board of Medical Cannabis (Board) of the PR Department of Health (DOH) recently announced that it is implementing Phase II of the Inventory Traceability System of medical cannabis. All authorized Crops and Manufacturing establishments must now be integrated into the System. This integration allows the supervision on inventories and security monitoring of the industry by the DOH-Medical Cannabis Office. The DOH awarded BioTrackTHC Puerto Rico (“BioTrack”) a contract to develop the System. BioTrack is currently offering three methods to introduce and transfer data to the System: (1) BioTrack’s commercial method; (2) a manual version of BioTrack’s method free of charge; and (3) access to BioTrack’s API documents in the System subject to certain limitations.

On August 1, 2018, the Board required every authorized Crop and Manufacturing establishment to be integrated into the System within a forty-five day term which expires on September 15, 2018.
