Puerto Rico Health Law Attorney

The Health Law Practice Group handles various legal matters representing physicians, hospitals, health insurers, medical groups, hospices, HMO’s, IPA’s, PBM’s, home health care companies, and managed care organizations, among others. Attorneys in our practice group assist healthcare providers with licensure applications, compliance programs, managed care contract issues, local and federal regulatory matters applicable in Puerto Rico, and patient privacy regulation (HIPAA and related local law).

Our lawyers also provide assistance to healthcare physicians and providers in a variety of matters, including those that are participating in mergers and acquisitions or joint ventures, those in need of structuring a private practice, as well as those charged with professional malpractice. Our attorneys are well prepared to provide counseling on fraud and abuse issues, false claims and “self referrals” matters. Also, we advise our healthcare clients on tax incentive, tax exempt status and gift taxes.

When litigation is necessary, we have vast experience representing them before government agencies, such as the Puerto Rico Department of Health and the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. We also represent pharmaceutical companies and equipment manufacturers which play a very important role in the delivery of healthcare services.

Members of the health law practice group also provide advice on the following areas, among others:

  • Certificate of Necessity and Convenience
  • Medicare/Medicaid
  • EMTALA
  • HIPAA
  • Puerto Rico Healthcare Reform
