Mildred Caban practices as a bankruptcy and creditor's rights specialist in the Litigation and Trial Practice Department of the Firm.  Her daily work as a bankruptcy litigator involves the legal representation of all types of secured, unsecured, and priority creditors in proceedings under Chapters, 7, 11, 12, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code.  She has also represented an official committee of unsecured creditors in both adversary proceedings and bankruptcy appellate proceedings.  Some of the larger bankruptcy matters she has handled involve representation of a lender who, as an undersecured claimant, was owed approximately $20,000,000.  She successfully negotiated a carve-out agreement with a Chapter 7 trustee, another secured creditor, and the government.  This agreement allowed her client to receive an amount in seven figures and avoided the expense and time of a foreclosure proceeding that would have resulted in a much longer process and potentially lower recovery.  In another case, Ms. Caban represented an unsecured creditor seeking to acquire a racetrack appraised at over $63 million.  She has also served as local counsel for a number of unsecured creditors committees
